Nearly all of the two-year colleges and many four-year public colleges require new students to take at least one placement test when they first enter the campus. Such assessments are also used by several private four-year schools. Community colleges, most of which enroll all high school graduates prefer to rely on these exams as they require different standards of skill from their students.
